GETTING YOUR MEDICINE CABINET TOGETHER

Normally the last refuge of chaos, a medicine cabinet doesn’t have to be a house of horrors filled with expired medications and ghastly gastro aids. In fact, I'll bet you could purge and organize your medicine cabinet in 15 minutes or less. So set the timer and let’s go!!!!
Getting It Together's Top 5 Tips for Medicine Cabinets
TIP #1 – Check the expiry dates. Always check the expiry dates before taking or applying products. Highlight the expiry date so it stands out better. All out-dated products can be taken to your local pharmacist for proper safe disposal. DO NOT DUMP THEM DOWN THE TOILET OR POUR THEM DOWN THE SINK as modern water treatment plants are not fully designed to deal with medication disposal.
TIP #2 – Organize and toss old outdated toiletries and make-up. If your not sure how old it is or what it’s for - TOSS it. All unopened, unused items can be donated to your local shelter. Don't keep items "just in case." You know what you like and use - so stick to it.
TIP #3 – Keep the first aid basics on hand: bandages, tweezers, first aid manual, lavender essential oil for burns and headaches, tea tree oil for insect bites, Q-tips, thermometer, cotton balls, polysporin, etc. Alternatively, if you already own a dedicated first aid kit (always a good idea), you may want to remove some of this redundancy from your medicine cabinet and just make sure the kit is clearly marked, well placed and everyone in your family knows where it’s located.
TIP – #4 – Toss all old well-used toothbrushes. Your dentist will love you for this one. You can also repurpose them for fine detailing when you clean (e.g. They can be very useful when cleaning tile grouting or around faucets). Just make sure they are taped or otherwise marked so that family members don’t mistake the brushes and use them! Save yourself a trip. Keep a supply of new toothpaste, floss and brushes on hand. Extra new toothbrushes are also a great consideration for that ‘last minute’ overnight guest. They’ll feel like they’re in a hotel and you won’t have to make any unsavoury decisions.
#5 – Practice Zone Defence. Anything that is not medicine/bathroom cabinet related needs a new home. If you have a "zone" for all items in your home you’ll always be able to find them the next time you go looking.
